Questions and Answers
QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MEAL REPLACEMENT AND A SUPPLEMENT AND HOW DO THESE TERMS RELATE TO THE LIFESTYLES PRODUCTS?
A meal replacement means that the product contains enough vitamins and minerals to meet the government requirement. Our Dream Shakes meet these requirements and therefore say right on the packaging - Meal Replacement. The cookies are not meal replacements but are meal supplements.
QUESTION:
WHY CAN'T THE LIFESTYLES DREAM COOKIES BE USED AS "DIET PRODUCTS" IN CANADA?
LifeStyles cookies and cakes were specifically designed as high-fibre snacks. Had they been formulated as "diet" cookies (meal replacements) LifeStyles would not have been able to list the fibre content on the label due to government labelling regulations for meal replacements. This would have defeated the whole purpose of the product which is to help people increase their intake of dietary fibre with great tasting, nutritious snack food.

WHAT WOULD EXPLAIN A NEW CUSTOMER EXPERIENCING AN UNCOMMON REACTION SUCH AS HEADACHE, NAUSEA, OR DIARRHEA AFTER USING THE PRODUCTS?

As with any food product, a small percentage of people may have a food allergy or food intolerance to a certain ingredient used in that product. Common intolerances include lactose intolerance (dairy products) and gluten intolerance (wheat, oats, rye). If a person has an intolerance to a certain ingredient, they should not consume that product. Also, many people are not used to eating properly and their bodies may need time to adjust to improved nutrition. These people may quite safely continue to use our products, however they may find it necessary to reduce their consumption of the products until their bodies have adjusted.

Lifestyles Dream Shakes have been formulated as meal replacements to be used as part of the Lifestyles DREAM DIET Program. These products are very nutrient-dense, meaning they provide high levels of nutrition with fewer calories. As an example, a regular meal providing all the protein, vitamins, minerals etc. found in Dream Shakes would come to well over 500 calories. QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATURATED, UNSATURATED AND POLYUNSATURATED FAT?
The term saturation refers to the amount of hydrogen in a particular fat. Saturated fat means the fat contains the maximum amount of hydrogen. Unsaturated means there is one point in the chain where hydrogen is missing and polyunsaturated means there are two or more points where hydrogen is missing. Hydrogen is added to fats to keep them from going rancid at room temperature. An easy way to identify the different fats is to remember that the more saturated a fat, the harder it is at room temperature. Lets look at lard, chicken fat and safflower oil as examples. Lard is the most saturated (made from pork), chicken fat is less saturated, and safflower oil is the least saturated (liquid at room temperature). Most experts recommend that we try and cut back on saturated fat levels because the body converts saturated fat into cholesterol in the blood. Saturated fat also reduces the body's ability to transport cholesterol in the blood to the liver where it is broken down and eliminated. Polyunsaturated fats, on the other hand, may help lower the level of certain types of cholesterol in the blood. Try using oils such as canola, olive, safflower, and sunflower - all are low in saturated fat and high in polyunsaturated fat.

DO I HAVE TO USE WATER FOR THE SHAKES OR CAN I ADD MILK?
